Git 'er done and other inspirations...

At the meeting on Thursday, Dec 9, we watched the clip from Dr. Reeves' keynote (Toxic Assessment), and discussed some the implications of his perspective. We explored some solutions/strategies to engage the reluctant learner, and looked at some simple "checking for understanding" techniques that were presented in Understanding by Design (Wiggins and McTighe). We agreed to try out a technique that was out of our comfort zone and report back, either at the next meeting or here on the wiki in the home discussion forum.

If you haven't already done so, please view the Reeves clip and respond. I will try to post the techniques in the next day or so.

Cindy

This is a link to the All Things Assessment website affilitated with Douglas Reeves and Solution Tree. It's an amazing resource that features blogs, materials and strategy sharing, and professional reading. I've just started with some of the blogs and checking out some of the classroom assessment materials. Check it out and let us know whether you found something helpful!

The Discussion's the Thing

We would like to apologize for the numerous "wardrobe changes" you may have encountered each time you've logged in. We've been trying out different features and layouts, using your feedback as our guide.

Note that we have changed the format to include a discussion for each page of content, and created a page for each professional reading book, and each "big idea." If you would like to contribute to a discussion about a particular book, or would like to reply using the big ideas approach, select the page and click the discussions tab.

Thanks, C & K

Let's give this Wiki thingy a try!

I am new to Wiki's, but it is a great way to have conversation about a common topic of interest. So, let's learn together.

Each of us has chosen a professional book of interest related to Assessment and/or DI. This is our opportunity to read or skim through the resources and share some of the best ideas that we may learn from. It can also be a safe and supportive place to raise questions and concerns about how we can experiment with some of these strategies in our own classrooms and learning environments.

We really appreciate your feedback on this wiki format as we adjust the set-up so we may best share as we learn along the way. Feel free to share your comments with us.

Thanks, Cindy and Karen
